Testing updates

June 20th, 2010 | by Smudge
Posted In: Journal

Been spending the day trying to get my personal site up and going again.

AoB, thankfully is fine and running. Heck – I even updated the page there!

But now with all the upgrades, it’s time to test it all. Which, of course means I’m going to be spamming and deleting entries as I test compatibility. I apologize in advance. ^.^

Look! an update to Longing for Home.
**This will be deleted as new updates occur

The Sky, It’s full of stars…

Finally redid the starfield at the front of the animation. Now it’s onto polishing up the rotation tree line as well as re looking at the African plain.

More to come.

Longing for Home – New Project Blog

So, since I lost my old project blog over at WithoutaBox for Longing for home. I though I’d set one up here for the project.

Project history: I started Longing for Home quite some time ago as a contest entry for the Hash Animation:Master quarterly animation contest. I ended up taking 3rd place. It was rough, basic blocking and lots of simple stand-in models, but enough there that I could tell a small story with. After the contest was over, I decided to polish it up and try and make it look the best that it could be. Several years later, and many breaks in between due to RL, I’m still at it, determined to finish.

Where I’m currently at: I’m current in the process of re-rendering the project with a new starscape. While Rose’s model has been finalized I’m still not happy with many of the backgrounds and hope to tinker on those in the near future. Also, past the African plans shot, Rose’s animation still needs to be tweaked to both liven it up and make sure she is playing her recorder correctly. I also need to work on building a proper spaceship model for the ending shot.

How come with animation projects it really does take 90% of the time to get the last 10% of the project done? lol

Giving Wreckamovie.com a try

May 19th, 2010 | by Smudge

Sorry for things being so quite here. Just so many sites to keep updated really wears you down. Trying to fix that, though. Expect some changes here in the future. ^.^

One of the things that has changed is that the user/production pages at WithoutaBox have gone away to merge with IMDb. So that got me looking into other blog/production options. Didn’t really find any, but I did find something more useful – Wreckamovie.com.

In my constant flay-lings at trying to finish many of my animation project, the one thing I’ve discovered is… I can’t do it all.

Literally.

Suddenly stumbling across something in a production that I can’t do is like hitting a huge brick wall at 30 miles an hour, that you never saw coming. And when I hit that brick wall, I have no were to turn to. At lest until now.

In my wondering today, I’ve stumbled across Wreckamove.com a site that specializes in connecting people together to work on film projects from around the world on an volunteer basis. So I figured I’d give that a try, starting with Longing for Home.

I posted my need for a tree model and a star-field mat painting there and see what develops. ^.^

If you wanna check it out and see how Longing for Home is developing, please feel free!

Cross-your fingers.
